The Mabel Jones Moore Museum is a component of the Mabel Jones Moore Foundation, Inc, (MJMF). The foundation is named after Mrs. Moore,
who was a humanitarian, community advocate, and mentor. MJMF’s mission is to enrich the lives of African Americans through history preservation, fostering educational research, culture awareness and art, maximizing disparities in health awareness with on-going programs.

Mabel Jones Moore was born in Lawrenceville, Virginia into the Lewis Jefferson and Jones family in 1921. The Jefferson/Jones families have
been residents of Virginia for over 200 years. They were landowners, gentleman farmers and all well educated. Education was a focus for their children. Mrs. Moore believed that it is not that so many of us fail, but rather so many fail to try. The museum is an extension of her love for humanity.

History for many African-American families started over 150 to 200 years ago in America. These families have ties, structure and interesting stories to tell.

The museums are community based and designed to broaden African American History as it connects to all history. MJMM elevates, enlightens and focuses on lesser known historical events.
